thoughts on the criteria - 2008/09/12 11:10 GMT Diane

I have taken time to read the merged criteria and other background materials relating to this forum.I appreciate that a lot of work has gone into topic and it is gratifying to see how much ground was covered in the two workshops. The thoughts I will be putting here may have been discussed but I hope they will add value to the criteria.
On Information and Data I take note that the tool adresses the issue of vertical interaction between top and bottom structures. However for the tool to be more effective it also should be able to adress the issue of horizontal interaction for different levels of the society. It should be noted that well analysed data and information in most developing countries is totally lacking. The tool should be able to prompt and encourage Governments to prioritise keeping records of well analyised data.
On land Governance the expected tools should progressively bring women in the realms of land Governance particularly at the grass root institutions.
On scale and sustainablity I believe the three points noted could be expanded. The tool proposed should have the ability to keep track of changes both positive and negative and be able to provide a scale of measurement. Countries go through a lot of socio-economic and political upheavals with the heavy effects falling on the women. Such tools should be flexible enough to adapt to changes in socio-economic and political dynamics.
The tool should be able to lead us into a prosperous future for the women. Hence the issue of econmic benefit need to be taken into consideration.Though some of the socio-cultural factor existing within the society are an impediment to the economic advancement the tool needs to gradually reduce the negative cultural practices and increamentally and progressively translate land resource to an econmic benefit that would empower the women relying on land for their livelihood.

Re:thoughts on the criteria - 2008/09/12 11:34 GMT Good day Rosemary

Many thanks for your considered response which will indeed add much value to the criteria list in each of the headings you have listed

For me, thought provoking ideas have occurred on:

-the idea of horizontal integration and data collection- this is very good, may I add the emphasis to actually appropriately collect the data.. and then subsequently rigorously analyse?

- providing a scale of measurement, and

- Your pragmatism around the need for incremental and progressive translation of land resources to an economic benefit, to gain gender sensitive approaches.

Thank you very much, hope you are able to spend more time as we all continue our journey over the next few weeks

Best wishes

dd
