What we can do this week - 2008/09/10 07:01 GMT Dear fellow passengers (Friends and Colleagues)

It is GREAT to see that so many people are actually viewing the site- we have a train busy with people, but

There is alot of information, particularly if you have not previously been involved in the debate.

The good thing is that this first week is all about getting you up to speed so that we can take the work done to date, further forward. So we aim to brainstorm.

Let me explain....

Having received a few emails seeking clarification of the ACTION needed from fellow passengers I felt it would be helpful to set out a few observations to get you and your active minds going.

Foremost,
Focus on the environment we are measuring (i.e. Land tools/ Policy):
If these are NOT gender sensitive then what criteria would measure and/ or indicate
a) an acceptable level of gender sensitivity, and
b) the need for action to better the impact on the goal for gender sensitive tools/ policies

Observations:

1) The Lukenay and Bagamoyo criteria lists may be a mix of critiera but also activities. The challenge is to devise a checklist, because these in turn will form true measureable indicators to gender sensitivity. The merged list tries to do this.
Do you think it succeeds? Are there glaring ommissions from the list?

2) Looking at the Lukenya criteria list, you might argue that the critieria identified could be grouped into: Information, Organsiation, Scale and Key Drivers. Similarly so could the Bagamoyo Criteira list. But this over simplification may miss the thrust of the diversity of land practices. What do you think?

3)Is the environment we are measuring both the formal institutional environment and participation of all of civil society, but also measuring the alternative land administration activities not captured in the formal system? Which criteria would ensure these measurements are captured?.

4) Do you have any observations?

Your contribution, however, small will be most welcomed as all postings are considered by the team now, but also in the final output

Best Wishes
