Welcome to Train Ride 3 from GLTN Secretariat! - 2008/09/23 13:08 GMT Dear e-forum participants,

We are setting off on the third train ride, moderated by Jude Wallace, which starts tomorrow Wednesday 24, September and will run until next Wednesday, 1 October.

For those of you who have actively participated up to now—thank you very much for the substantive and critical ideas and examples that you have shared so far that are advancing and improving the evaluation criteria. We also encourage the continuation of the different perspectives—from women and men, and from different professional, geographical and faith viewpoints— that you are bringing into the debate.

For others visiting the forum—we look forward to hearing from you as well.

Many of you have shared opinion on the first question: what it is we want to know about how a land tool impacts/relates to gender (for example whether a tool adequately addresses land markets, and how they influence a tool from women and men’s perspectives, or whether a tool adequately addresses gender & property rental, gender & environmental dimensions, and community cohesiveness just to give a few examples from the past weeks).

We are on train ride 3 switching to look at the next 2 questions:

2. What will tell us this?
3. What is the source of this information?

This switches us into looking at how we can answer the many questions we have posed. Are we asking the right questions? Are they formulated as we want them? Is it possible to answer them? Do we need indicators or some other measures? And where can we access the answers to the questions? Only if this information can be accessible, can the criteria be used for evaluation.

The summary of last week’s discussion will be up on the e-forum by tomorrow.

We look forward to continuing this train-dialogue with you.
