How to participate (Ground Rules)

login.jpgTICKET:  All those who visit the portal (www.gltn.net) will be able to log on to the E-Forum (train), access all the information and follow progress on the discussions (journey).  However, in order to undertake the journey itself (post new messages or respond), you will need to register (obtain a ticket). Participation in the discussion (train journey) will be subject to basic ground rules which will be supervised of the moderators (train operators).

TRAIN OPERATORS: The overall E-Forum coordinator (train operator) of the discussion— both the website monitoring (technical) and substantive inputs (services) — lie with the GLTN Secretariat ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) with inputs from four specialist moderators. If you have any questions or concerns, please address the overall GLTN coordinator at the above e-mail.

DEPARTURE & JOURNEY: The discussion begins (train departs) on 8 September 2008 and after 5 stages (train rides with station stops) will complete its discussions/achieve its objectives (arrive at the destination) on 15 October 2008. The E-Forum (journey) has a specific focus (route), with specific timetables for each stage (train stops), and rules of participation aimed at reaching that objective (destination).

stop_sign.jpgTRAIN STOPS: The  E- Forum discussion (journey) is organized into specific segments (rides marked by specific train stops). These mark the culmination of each stage of the discussion whereby no retracing is possible once a stage is passed (that is, participants will not be able to go back to that train ride).  If they want to make related comments these will have to be linked to the current ride.

destination.jpgDESTINATION: The main objective (destination) for this train journey is to achieve consensus - towards establishing criteria for gender-responsive large scale tools. The draft evaluation criteria developed -will be put together in a pamphlet titled How to evaluate the gender-responsiveness of a land tool for presentation/consultations at WUF4 in Nanjing, and preparations will begin for piloting the project.

fellow_travellers.jpg FELLOW TRAVELLERS: This “train journey” is open to all stakeholders – grassroots, gender activists, land professionals, policy makers, researchers- and all stakeholders (passengers) undertake to respect each other’s positions, reserved spaces and sensitivities.

LUGGAGE: Participants (passengers) should bring their own expertise, experiences, perspectives (baggage) but at the same time recognize that the E-Forum is about interacting, networking and thinking afresh. If the views (baggage) of one passenger interfere with the smooth conduct of the discussion (enjoyment of the journey) the train operator (the moderator) will intervene.

PLANNING FOR THE JOURNEY:
Make sure you have all the info (GLTN, concept note, rules) which will make the discussion (and your journey) safe, secure, enjoyable and productive!
