The main objective of GLTN is to contribute to poverty alleviation and the MDGs  through land reform, improved land management and security of tenure.

The definition of GLTN members are those individuals who has registered at the GLTN website as well as those organisations who would like to be on the GLTN distribution list. The GLTN members consists of GLTN stakeholders and target groups such as; i) Land professionals (lawyers, surveyors, tax specialists, etc.), ii) National and local governments in developing and transition countries, iii) Donors (bilateral and multilateral, foundations) and UN organizations, iv) NGOs (international and national), v) Academic, research and advisory services (universities, training institutions, consultants, etc.), vi) Media (national and international radio, TV, press and wire services), and through them, the general public in developed and developing countries, and vii) Local people and community groups.

The website has had some 25,000 unique visitors in 2007 and approximately 350,000 pages have been downloaded from 115 different countries. The registered GLTN members on the website are now (as per 17 January 2008) 492 individuals and some 70 institutions/organisations worldwide representing more than 80 countries.
