At least sixty (60) partner-organisations and individuals from grassroots organisations, professional groups, training and research institutions, multilateral and bilateral organisations and civil society groups participated the two-day GLTN Partners' Meeting, 15-16 November 2011, Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting was also attended by some members of the UN-HABITAT’s Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR), some prospective new partners and representatives from the private sector. At the end, partners' conclude that there is reinforced and strengthened partnership as indicated by the expansion of the Network (now with 45 partners) and by the quality of the engagement and participation of partners.

Prior to the meeting, a Briefing/Orientation Event on  ‘GLTN Tools and Products’ highlighting existing tools, products and initiatives was conducted on 14 November 2011. This event provided the partners an overview of the existing land tools and current initiatives and prepared them, particularly the new partner-organisations, for an active engagement in the Partners’ Meeting.

The Theme, 'Strengthening Global Partnership: Sustaining the Paradigm Shift towards Designing, Developing and Implementing Pro-Poor Land Tools and Approaches’, guided the partners during their cluster and cross-cluster group workshops and plenary discussions. The primary objective of the meeting which is to further strengthen the global partnership towards sustaining the paradigm shift in the development and implementation of pro-poor land tools and approaches has been significantly met.

During the meeting, the Network’s achievements, challenges and future direction was shared and discussed by partners.  Likewise, partners identified priority projects/programmes within the cluster and have articulated key areas for collaboration for various thematic areas. Cluster representatives for the International Advisory Board (IAB) were also decided during the meeting. Following the dissemination of questionnaires to the partners for the development of a partnership strategy, initial findings were shared and discussed. In several occasions, partners also appreciated the Governments of Norway and Sweden, as main donors, for their continuous financial support to GLTN. .

UN-HABITAT Executive Director Joan Clos delivered a welcome address (via a video) congratulating the Network, amongst others, on its achievements. Before the ED’s address, Ambassador Agnes Kalibbala, the current IAB Chairperson, highlighted a brief history and background on the establishment of the Network. On the other hand, UN-HABITAT’s Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Paul Taylor provided an overview of the on-going reforms within the organization and highlighted the Agency’s programme areas including land.

On 17 November 2011, an informal IAB meeting was held with the existing and newly appointed representatives taking forward the 'spirit' of partnership and networking during the Partners Meeting.
