Indicators on land policy implementation
landpolicyAddis Ababa, 4 May 2007. GLTN funded a two-day Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on modalities for developing African land policy reform benchmarks and indicators. In preparing the meeting, GLTN also supported drafting the concept paper of the EGM.

The meeting was held at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 3-4 May 2007. The outcome of the meeting will support the overall African Land Policy initiative, a African Union Commission (AUC), UNECA and African Development Bank partnership.

Participants were drawn from African government agencies, African regional economic communities, African civil society international organizations, academia and consultancy firms. Participants learnt from other ongoing indicators initiatives (local, regional and global) to inform the land policy indicators development processes in Africa.

Participants worked in plenary and group sessions and agreement was reached on a series of activities to take the indicators development process further. These activities include transforming the concept paper into a background paper, identifying key land indicators and benchmarks and developing communication and buy-in strategies. UN-HABITAT through the GLTN, along with other development partners, will continue to backstop the Pan African initiative.

More information, including presentation and speeches, is available on UNECA website:
