At least sixty (60) partner organisations and individuals from grassroots organisations, professional groups, training and research institutions, multilateral and bilateral organisations and civil society groups participated the two-day GLTN Partners' Meeting, 04-05 November 2009, Nairobi, Kenya. At the end, partners' perceive themselves as 'owners' of the Network and the meeting created a significant momentum to push further the GLTN agenda.

Prior to the meeting, a Side Event highlighting GLTN selected outputs and activities was conducted that provides the partners, especially the new organisations, the orientation and knowledge for them to be able to actively engaged during the Partners' Meeting.

The theme, 'Enriching Partnerships and Increasing Activities for Land Reform', guided the partners during their cluster and cross-cluster group discussions to provide an assessment of the past experiences of the Network and gather lessons from them, find ways on how to strengthen the International Advisory Board (IAB) and agree on the significant achievements of the meeting and what is the way forward. The Partners have also been briefed about the preliminary findings of the GLTN mid-term assessment which solicit some questions and further ideas on how address the reported key challenges.

Key grassroots organisations coming from their 2-day Meeting to concretise the process and mechanisms by which good community practices and projects can be up scaled have contributed to the success of the Partners' meeting. They also presented the summary outcomes of their meeting in the plenary.

Deputy Executive Director Inga Bjork-Klevby of UN-HABITAT in delivering a message during the opening programmed stressed that many global challenges nowadays are connected to land. She further elaborated that the growing interest in the Network and its objective of promoting pro-poor and gendered land tools affirm that GLTN is addressing land issues in the right direction. Meanwhile, Ambassador Agnes Kalibbala, the Chairperson of the GLTN International Advisory Board (IAB) summarised the historical background of the creation and development of the Network and recognised that the Network is expanding and the meeting will further enrich the partnership.

On 06 November 2009, a meeting of the IAB was held taking forward the agreements during the Partners' meeting including the 'spirit' of partnership and networking which marks the new era for GLTN as a Network.

The Proceedings of the Partners' meeting is currently being drafted and will be made available soon to partners.
