Four new GLTN tools and initiatives were presented by partners at a conference in Marrakech, Morocco from 18-22 May 2011. The conference was organised by the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and featured the theme: ‘Bridging the Gaps between Cultures”.

The GLTN tools that were exhibited included a further development of the Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM), a training package on ‘Designing and Evaluating Land Tools with a Gender Perspective’ and a new pro-poor land recordation system developed by GLTN partners at an expert group meeting in March 2011.

GLTN partners advocated key messages on pro-poor land rights in the many technical sessions and forums of the 5-day conference which was attended by more than 1,500 land professionals from 90 countries.

At the conference, the new FIG President Teo CheeHai reconfirmed his organisation’s commitment to work with GLTN partners and UN-HABITAT to develop and implement pro-poor and gender responsive tools. Mr CheeHai represents the land professional’s cluster in GLTN’s International Advisory Board.
