Towards a Communal Land Management: strategies, tools and conditions for success

Last October, GRET and CEBEDES have, on the initiative of the Technical Committee on Land and Development, organized and hosted an international workshop in Cotonou, Benin, to exchange practices entitled "Towards a Communal Land Management: strategies, tools and conditions for success. "

In many African countries, the debate on land policy focuses on land tenure security policies, providing legal recognition to local land rights, and giving municipalities a strong responsibility in managing the land. The workshop aimed to create an opportunity to meet and in-depth exchange between policymakers, practitioners, experts and decision-makers around the case of Benin, Madagascar and Niger, who are more advanced in this process.

The proceedings of this workshop have been published. They offer a perspective of these three experiments, detailing their options and modality of implementation. They will, we believe, a working tool for all those who think and operate on land policies.

The workshop proceedings are available on the "Land and Development" (French Link)  http://www.foncier-developpement.org/vie-des-reseaux/le-projet-appui-a-lelaboration-des-politiques-foncieres/atelier-dechanges-sur-la-gestion-fonciere-a-lechelle-communale as well as all communications in final review after the workshop.    (The workshop participants will of course receive a paper version).
