The first meeting of the GLTN International Advisory Board
Monday 23 of April 2007 the GLTN International Advisory Board (IAB) held its  first meeting in Nairobi, Kenya. GLTN is mandated through the UN-HABITAT work programme based on the approved 2006-7 biennium Work Programme, as well as the Medium-Term Strategic and Institutional Plan (MTSIP) for 2008–2013 and its Enhanced Normative and Operational Framework as approved by the 21st session of the UN-HABITAT Governing Council.  
 
IAB is established as an advisory body to the GLTN and its Steering Committee. IAB shall provide objective advice in regard to social, economic, scientific and technical issues in regard to GLTN policies,  operational strategies and projects; conduct selective reviews of projects in certain circumstances and at specific points in the project cycle as an integral part of ongoing processes.  
 
IAB activities shall be integrated with the activities of the GLTN  Secretariat and GLTN implementing partners and be consistent with GLTN processes and procedures approved by the Steering Committee.
 
IAB shall advise the Steering Committee on ways to advance a better understanding of land issues and how to address them. IAB's role in providing strategic advice to the GLTN shall be as
follows:  
Advise on the state of social, economical, legal, political, environmental and technical knowledge related to the GLTN thematic area including cross-cutting issues highlighting policy and operational implications for the GLTN;  
  • Advise on achieving coherence of GLTN operational strategies and their consistency with GLTN objectives;  
  • Advise on achieving integration of national and global benefits in GLTN interventions;
  • Advise on research  by identifying applied/targeted research which would improve the design and implementation of GLTN initiatives.
