Facts
XIV International Congress for Mine Surveying

The congress will serve to share knowledge to advance the science and practice of mine surveying, mining and geotechnical engineering, geology, mineral evaluation and allied disciplines. With a current membership of 42 countries, the ISM is expecting participation from many countries, making this an excellent opportunity to share knowledge with international colleagues. The scope of activities addressed by the commissions of the ISM, which guide the themes of this congress, should serve to attract papers and presentations from a diversity of mining professionals.

This also the first time that an ISM congress is hosted in Africa and only the second time that a congress has been held in the southern hemisphere.

South Africa is endowed with rich mineral resources and is a global leader in mining, playing a dominant role in many sectors of the industry. South Africa is the world’s largest producer of platinum and until recently was also the world’s largest gold producer. Our country is also a leading producer of base metals, coal and diamonds. Other minerals mined include chromium, vanadium, manganese and uranium.

South Africa’s strengths include a high level of technical expertise, taking into account the ever-increasing challenges of mining conditions, with the deepest gold mining shafts in the world now nearing four kilometers in dept

We welcome you to our wonderful country, rich in biodiversity and cultural history, and look forward to your active participation in the 2010 International Mine Surveying Congress in SA.

Location: Sun City, South Africa
